Decorate Book Tour

Yesterday I made a trip down to San Francisco to meet and greet Holly Becker of the popular blog Decor8.  She has just come out with a book, appropriately named Decorate.  The Anthropologie store was hosting the event, providing a mood board presentation by Holly and Leslie Shewring.  Leslie authors the blogs Color Me Pretty and A Creative Mint. How can I resist the combination of some of my favorite bloggers in one of my favorite stores in one of my favorite cities??

Accompanied by a colleague, DeAnna Mackensen of REDesign, we made a day of it by hitting the San Francisco Design Center (more on that later) before making our way to Union Square to do a bit of shopping before the event.

We arrived at Anthropoligie to join the other bloggers and Holly Becker fans for a bit of refreshments and farmers market kettle corn before Holly went through the process of making a mood board.  She gave great advice on how to not get overwhelmed when you are out shopping for your home by making a plan via the mood board.

After the presentation, we chatted with fellow attendees, Holly and Leslie Shewring.

Both Holly and Leslie were teachers in the Blogging Your Way class I took in the Winter 2010 session.  The class led me to have much admiration for their creative abilities and mastership of blogging and design.  They are my creative gurus!

It was such a fun night!  I gathered a few inspirations just from being in the Anthropologie store!

Holly will be touring a few other cities on her book tour, she is in LA tonight.  If you don't have a chance to catch her in person, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Decorate, which is already in its 4th printing.  It's back ordered on Amazon but you may be able to snag a copy at your closest Anthropologie.

.....Or you can stay tuned for a special giveaway of a signed copy of Decorate that I picked up just for my readers!  Giveaway will be announced on Monday!  Have a great weekend!

Anatolia Remodel: Before and After- The Great Room

Today's reveal for the Anatolia Remodel is the Great Room.  The owners weren't sure what to do with this space except they knew they wanted to keep Grandma's dining room set.

We opened the wall to the family room, added a little paint, recovered the dining chairs, changed out the boring builder light fixtures, added window coverings and new furnishings for a conversation area.  The room has a purpose now and looks great when guest arrive.

Anatolia Remodel: Before and After - The Family Room

A few weeks back I posted a teaser photo of one of the projects I just completed.  Here is the first reveal of the before and afters, as promised, of this fun remodel.  The scope of the project included taking a newly purchased home and furnishing the Family Room, Great Room and Master Bedroom.  Today's reveal is the Family Room.  We opened the wall between the Family Room and Great Room to allow more natural light into the Family Room which really felt small and closed in:

Giveaway: Paper Culture

Paper Culture was one of the vendors at BolgHer '11 that provided me with a giveaway to my clients.  I loved getting a few samples of their thank you cards.
While I love stationary and cards, what I was really interested in at their booth was the bamboo wall art which would be so fun in a kids's room.

You can chooses one of their great designs, personalize with names or even upload your own photo.

They are applied to 3 ply bamboo plaques and very green since as you know, bamboo is a renewable resource.

So I am giving away a $50 voucher to Paper Culture!

To enter to win: Leave a comment after perusing the Paper Culture website and let me know what you would like to get with your voucher.

Bonus entries:

1. Become a new follower and leave a comment
2. Tweet about giveaway and link back to @rwarddesign or in comments
3. Facebook mention with "Rebecca Ward Design" or link back in comments

Winner will be selected next Monday, August 22nd via random.org.
Best of luck!

BlogHer '11

Last weekend I jetted down to San Diego to attend BlogHer 11.  It was a wonderful weekend in one of the best California cities.  I was able to meet up with two blogging friends who author ChicGeek Designs and Be Healthy Well and Inspired
We toured the 100 sponsors booths, gathering tons of swag and free things I probably don't need.
I did win a free 5'x7' area rug from CarptetOne featuring carpet from Lees to my delight!  It actually was the one vendor that fit into my blog category!

I was also able to sit in on some fabulous sessions about blogging in your local community and blog design (you may see a few changes soon!)  Our keynote speaker on Saturday was the CEO of Pepsico Indra Nooyi, who was very inspirational in telling her story of how she got to where she is and the future of her company.

Amidst all the swag, I did receive some good giveaway items so stay posted for those!

Chan Residence: Before and After

I spent Monday down in Las Vegas at the World Market Center looking at some great furniture and accessory vendors so I haven't had a lot of time to edit photos.  However, I did a quick pass on a few from the Chan Residence to bring you the beloved Before and Afters! It really is all that anyone asks to see anymore.  It gives the viewer such a great grasp as to the extent of the remodel.  This remodel included replacing the carpet with hardwood floors, a custom hounds tooth rug (love!), built-in cabinets, mixing new and existing furniture and accessorizing.  Take a look:
